About Sheila Looman - Celestial Blessings
My passion and life’s work is teaching historical gardening, and herbal lore to kids and adults alike. I feel it is important to keep herbal knowledge alive with our youth and the next seven generations.
It was in 1991, while operating Mountain Meadows Farm market in Northville, NY, I discovered the wonderful world of herbs. I studied and learned everything I could about the Adirondack plant world. I learned all about the wild medicinal and edible plants and for the past 22 years have given lectures and classes on herbal gardening, uses and crafting to young and old alike.
From 1995-2006 I had the pleasure of volunteering and working with the Bements Billings Farmstead, under the supervision of Kim Mayhew, in Newark Valley, NY. I taught heirloom gardening and herbal lore to elementary school tours, mentally challenged young adults, as well as visitors both young and old alike. I helped to create an after school gardening class, where the children, planted, grew, and harvested both heirloom veggies and herbs. We also created and planted a dye garden. The kids made teas, ate fried dandelion buds, dyed wool, made soap, and learned to prepare wild spring greens just to name a few of the activities.
From 1998-2000 I apprenticed for 2 years at the Cutler Botanical Gardens in Binghamton, NY with Broome County Master Gardeners, covering all aspects of gardening, but concentrating on Shrubs and Trees, Roses, and Rock gardens.
During this period of time up through 2004 I owned and operated Amazin’ Grace Herb Farm in Ketchumville, NY, offering Wild walks, workshops, farm tours, and hosted festivals. I was also acting president of the Seven Counties Farmers Market and in 1997 and 1998 participated on the Herb Committee at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
From 2004-2006 I owned and operated Shady Lady Nursery in Hadley, NY, specializing in shade loving plants.
After relocating to Jackson, Georgia, I studied at the ANHI School of Hypnotherapy, where I became a Certified Hypnotherapist.
But the love of plants, has been my passion and my commitment to the legacy of herbology increases with the passing of time. I began to share my herbal knowledge with my local community, teaching a series of Herbal Classes for the Butts County GA Historical society and The Smithsonian’s Key Ingredient exhibit in Jackson, GA.
2011 and 2012 I participated as an Herb demonstrator at Dauset Trails Bluebird Bluegrass Festival.
I currently live in Jackson, Georgia where I grow my herbs and offer classes in the fall, winter and spring. In the summers I spend my time in New York, teaching classes in the Adirondack Mountains. I have been Young Living distributor since 1999 , and have been using and sharing these amazing essential oils ever since. I have learned many different uses of these oils and it is my mission to share them with you.
